Couples therapy is intended to help couples to deal in a dignified and adult way with short- or long-term crises, recurrent problems in the relationship, such as everyday quarrels, but also marital infidelity. During the sessions the couple have an opportunity to lay aside their disagreements and hurts from the past, to cement/establish their mutual trust and strengthen the feeling of closeness to one another. The result tends to be a better mutual understanding, the reinforcement and restoration of the couple relationship. Sometimes, however, it can also turn out to be a considerate and mature way of terminating the relationship. If the relationship involves children, then couples therapy may include a consistent separation of the couple relationship from parenthood so that the couple continue to be cooperative and well-functioning parents. An important part of a successful pair therapy is the willingness of both partners to cooperate and achieve the necessary change.
The starting point is one separate session with each member of the couple. It takes 60 minutes. This meeting is important for clarifying the motivation for pair therapy. The meeting is followed up with couple therapy proper.
Couples therapy/session takes 90 minutes.
